Average Punta Cana Wedding Cost: The Quick Answer

For most couples in 2026, a destination wedding in Punta Cana costs between $3,000 and $15,000 for the wedding itself (not including guest travel). Here’s how that typically breaks down:

  • Intimate wedding (10-20 guests): $2,000 – $5,000
  • Mid-size wedding (30-50 guests): $5,000 – $12,000
  • Large wedding (60-100+ guests): $12,000 – $30,000+

These numbers include the resort wedding package, upgrades, and vendor add-ons. They do not include flights, accommodations, or the honeymoon. I’ll cover those separately below.

The guest count will have the biggest impact on your budget. Every additional guest means higher per-person dining costs, more rooms to coordinate, and a bigger overall investment. That said, Punta Cana remains one of the most affordable luxury destination wedding locations in the Caribbean. It’s close by, safe, and offers tons of options. If you live in the US or Canada, then Punta Cana is your #1 option for a destination wedding.

Resort Wedding Package ($1,300 – $7,000+)

All inclusive resorts offer packages that include the basics:

  • Venue setup
  • Basic décor
  • Officiant
  • Wedding cake
  • Sparkling wine toast,
  • Bouquet
  • Boutonniere
  • Dinner reception for a set number of guests.

Entry-level packages (often called “complimentary” or “free” wedding packages) become available when you book a minimum number of rooms (typically 10-15 rooms for a 3-7 night stay). We highly recommend these packages because they genuinely are a good deal, not only do you get to have your wedding, but you have an entire vacation with all your guests.

Premium packages ($3,000 – $7,000+). As I said earlier, package upgrades are mainly tied to guest count with the extra amenities being added as a bonus:

  • Private cocktail hours
  • Upgraded floral arrangements
  • Extended receptions
  • Premium bar service
  • Live entertainment

If you want your reception to feel like a real party rather than a get-together, then you’ll have to consider upgrading.

Photography and Videography ($1,500 – $5,000+)

Capturing all the memories and the unique, irreplaceable, and special moments of this meaningful day in your life, is just as important as planning the entire event. Out of the whole event, your wedding photos are the only souvenirs you’ll keep with you forever. So hiring professional wedding photography is one of the most important investments you’ll make. If you’re not sure where to start, check out our guide on how to choose a wedding photographer in Punta Cana.

One factor that affects the total is whether you include a second photographer, which usually adds 25 to 50 percent to the photography package. Our guide explains when a second photographer is worth it for a Punta Cana wedding.

On a day filled with so many emotions and expectations for your big day to be perfect, it is a relief to have a team of professionals who understand your feelings and know how to guide you and capture all those unique moments that will arise spontaneously and be preserved in a photograph taken at the exact right moment.

In Punta Cana, expect to pay:

  • Photography only (6-8 hours): $1,500 – $3,500
  • Photography + Videography combo: $2,500 – $5,000+
  • Engagement/couples session add-on: $300 – $800

Flights and Accommodations ($400 – $900 per person)

Round-trip flights to Punta Cana (PUJ airport) from major US cities typically cost $250 – $700USD per person, though prices spike during peak season (December – April). Flights from Canada and the UK tend to cost around $500 – $900USD.

For accommodations, all-inclusive resort rates in 2026 average $150 – $500 per person per night depending on the resort and room category. These ranges can increase significantly during peak season (December – April), so expect to pay 30-40% more. A 4-night stay for a couple ranges from $1,200 to $2,800. Many resorts offer group room rates when you book 10+ rooms, which can save your guests 15-30%.

Extra Décor and Upgrades ($500 – $5,000+)

The resort’s included décor is adequate, but chances are you’re gonna want a more custom look. If you want to go beyond the basics, you’ll want to work with an external decorator.

Here are some ideas for what you might want to include:

  • Floral arches
  • Custom centerpieces
  • Specialty linens
  • Uplighting
  • Dance floor on the beach

Budget $500 – $2,000 for meaningful upgrades, or $3,000 – $5,000+ for a fully custom design.

Entertainment and Music ($300 – $2,000)

Most packages include a basic sound system with a playlist of your choice. But if you’re looking to go all out, consider these options to liven up your wedding:

  • DJ (3-4 hours): $300 – $800
  • String trio or saxophonist: $400 – $1,000
  • Live band: $1,000 – $2,000+

Hair and Makeup ($150 – $500)

Most resorts have an on-site salon, and there are several excellent independent hair and makeup artists in Punta Cana. Bridal hair and makeup typically runs $200 – $400, with bridesmaids at $100 – $200 each. We highly recommend you book a trial if you can, humidity here is very high. You’ll want to make sure your look lasts the whole day.

Resort Wedding Package Comparison (2026)

Here’s how the most popular Punta Cana resorts compare for wedding packages:

ResortFree Package?Premium PackageBest For
Hard Rock HotelYes (With Love)$2,500 – $8,000+Large groups, flexible policies
Dreams Macao BeachYes (7-night stay)$1,300 – $4,600+Intimate, stunning natural beach
Majestic EleganceYes (15+ rooms)Included for groupsMid-size, great value 40-60 guests
Sanctuary Cap CanaNo$5,000 – $15,000+Luxury, exclusive marina setting
Secrets Royal BeachYes (qualifying stay)$1,300 – $5,000+Adults-only, romantic
Royalton BavaroYes (room block)$1,500 – $4,000+Budget-friendly, modern

Pro tip from a photographer: Majestic Elegance runs only one wedding per day. This is great because it lets you take your time with everything and alleviates a lot of the pressure. Hard Rock is incredibly flexible with timing and locations. Sanctuary Cap Cana is in a league of its own for luxury, it’s located inside an already highly exclusive gated community. Though this does mean that the price is the highest on the list.

The Hidden Cost Most Couples Miss: Taxes and Fees

This is the section I wish every wedding planner would lead with. In the Dominican Republic, taxes add 28% to your wedding costs. That’s 18% ITBIS (sales tax) plus a 10% mandatory service charge.

So when a resort quotes you a $5,000 wedding package, your actual cost is closer to $6,400. This catches many couples off guard, especially when the tax applies to upgrades, extra guests, and additional services too.

Other commonly overlooked costs include:

  • Legal marriage fees: $150 – $300 if getting legally married in the DR. Check out our guide on this very topic.
  • Welcome bags for guests: $15 – $30 per room.
  • Transportation (airport transfers): $30 – $50 per person roundtrip.
  • Tips for resort staff: Budget $200 – $500 for coordinator, servers, setup team.
  • External vendor resort access fees: Some resorts charge $100 – $500 for outside vendors.

10 Insider Tips to Save Money on Your Punta Cana Wedding

  1. Book during shoulder season (May – June or November). You’ll save 20-30% on room rates, the weather is still beautiful, and resorts are less crowded.
  2. Choose non-holiday dates. Hotels and services often offer better rates on non-holiday days.
  3. Select the day of the week for your wedding. If you choose to celebrate your wedding on a Friday or Sunday, you may get lower rates than if you choose a Saturday. By selecting one of these days, you could save between 10% and 20%.
  4. Flight and accommodation dates for your guests. Flight fares are usually cheaper before the weekend. Your guests could arrive on Thursday for a Friday or Sunday wedding and leave on Monday. Likewise, you may secure better rates and upgrades on your accommodation package with hotels if your group does not coincide with peak Saturday occupancy.
  5. Negotiate the room block. The more rooms your group books, the more leverage you have. Ask for complimentary suite upgrades or extra reception hours.
  6. Do a symbolic ceremony instead of a legal one. Getting legally married at home saves $200+ in Dominican legal fees and paperwork.
  7. Use the resort’s included décor as your base. The tropical setting does most of the work. A few strategic upgrades make a bigger impact than redesigning everything.
  8. Consider local and seasonal flowers. The surroundings and natural scenery in Punta Cana are vibrant and stunning, which works in your favor if you choose a simple, delicate, and elegant décor.
  9. Evaluate the all-inclusive wedding packages offered by hotels. If you prefer more affordable options, this can be a good alternative and will definitely be less stressful than organizing everything externally.
  10. Hire local vendors. Local photographers, DJs, and decorators offer excellent quality at a fraction of flying in vendors from the US. It’s also preferred to work with local vendors because they have better expertise in Punta Cana.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a destination wedding in Punta Cana cheaper than a wedding at home?

In most cases, yes. The average US wedding costs over $35,000, while a destination wedding in Punta Cana with 30-50 guests typically runs $8,000 – $15,000 (including the couple’s travel). You also avoid many of the line-item costs that inflate stateside weddings. Separate venue rental, catering, bar service, and coordination are all bundled in the resort package.

How far in advance should I book?

Ideally 12-18 months out for peak season (December – April) and 8-12 months for off-season. Popular dates at top resorts sell out quickly, especially since most only host one wedding per day. For your photographer, booking 10-12 months ahead is recommended.

Do guests pay for their own flights and hotel?

Traditionally, yes. Guests cover their own travel and accommodations, which typically runs $1,200 – $2,500 per couple for a 4-night all-inclusive stay including flights. This replaces the usual gift. Many couples set up a honeymoon fund instead of a traditional registry.

What’s the best time of year for a Punta Cana wedding?

December through April offers the most consistent weather with low humidity and minimal rain. However, May, June, and early July are excellent value months with great weather and significantly lower prices. Personally I wouldn’t worry too much about the weather, the entire year is sunny, and rain is sporadic. You should always be prepared in case it does rain, but chances are it won’t. Find out the best way to prepare on our Punta Cana weather guide.

Can I bring my own photographer or do I have to use the resort’s?

You can absolutely bring your own photographer, and I strongly recommend it. Resort photographers work on a volume model and typically spend 1-2 hours with you. An independent photographer or a dedicated photography studio like HDC, will dedicate 6-8+ hours to your day, know the best spots at your specific resort, and deliver a far more personalized experience.
