You picked a beautiful place to get married. Punta Cana has soft sand, clear water, and swaying palm trees giving your photos that tropical romantic feel. Most resorts are right by the beach, so your ceremony, portraits, and reception won’t be far from paradise.

As your Punta Cana wedding photographers, we know planning a destination wedding comes with a lot of questions. We are here to provide friendly, direct, and time-saving answers to all your questions. So without further ado let’s dive in!

Your Wedding at Punta Cana

Why choose Punta Cana for your wedding photoshoot?

Punta Cana is a very unique travel destination. Here you can find postcard beaches full of white sand and shimmering turquoise water. This is the perfect place to relax, enjoy swimming, lounging, and water activities. The area has numerous all-inclusive resorts, with luxurious dining experiences, and breathtaking modern architecture. There is an endless catalogue of excursions to take part in for all kinds of travelers from snorkeling, golf, ATV boogies, to wild nightlife at the Coco Bongo Show & Disco.

When it comes to getting married there are many options at your disposal. Resorts can provide a consolidated experience but you also have the freedom of picking independent venues such as Jellyfish Restaurant and Kukua Beach Club. For more info check out our guide on Punta Cana wedding venues.

The weather is also ideal, with radiant sunlight all year. You can expect vibrant sunset photos and colorful photoshoots. The region is known for its hospitable people and family oriented culture, perfect for that lively tropical wedding you’re dreaming of. Even the staff at the resort will share your enthusiasm during the celebrations.

What is the best time of year for a wedding in Punta Cana?

You can expect sunny weather all year. December to April is the driest and most popular. July to October is a warmer and more humid rainy season, but the skies can be dramatic and the sunsets vivid. May, June, and November are a bit quieter than December-April and more budget friendly. These months also don’t quite fall under the rainy season unlike July-October. If you’re unsure about which time to pick, check out our blog where we cover this in detail.

Do you need a permit for beach wedding photos?

On resort beaches, you need permission to bring an external Punta Cana wedding photographer to your wedding venue. Many allow only approved photographers and may charge a vendor fee or ask for a day pass for outside teams. We’ll confirm any fees up front so there are no surprises down the line.

Public beaches generally don’t need permits though. If all inclusive resorts are not your thing, you can get some stunning beach photos by going away from the tourist areas. You might even prefer this, some public beaches tend to be natural and raw. Our top pick for a public beach photoshoot is Macao Beach.

Are there other locations where we can do a photoshoot?

While we are based in Punta Cana, our wedding photographers extend across the Dominican Republic. We’ve covered locations like Bayahibe, La Romana, Puerto Plata, Cabrera, Samana, and Las Terrenas to name the most frequent places. Additionally, we capture destination weddings throughout the Caribbean, including locales such as Jamaica, Mexico, and Cartagena, Colombia.

Choosing a Photographer

How do I choose the best wedding photographer in Punta Cana?

You need to consider what matters most to you. The best place to start is by looking at wedding photos of other couples. Go through the entire gallery and pay attention to how the photographer handles getting ready, the ceremony, and the reception. By doing this you can also get some ideas for what you might want for your own wedding.

Another thing you need to consider is how experienced and knowledgeable your photographer is. Look into how long they’ve been working in Punta Cana and how recent their work is. You’ll want to find someone that’s been in the area for a while and is also well informed about recent trends and hotels.

If you decide to work with us, our wedding photographers know Punta Cana weddings inside and out. From the light on the beach to the timing of resort ceremonies. You get a team used to working together, guiding you when needed and stepping back when real moments unfold. If you want to see how this looks in real weddings, take a look at our recent work.

Should I hire a local photographer or bring one from home?

Bringing someone you know can feel comfortable, but travel costs and resort fees add up. Our local teams have backups on hand, know the best spots on each resort, and can adapt quickly if the weather shifts. Most couples find working with us to be less stressful overall.

How far in advance should I book my photographer?

Nine to twelve months is safe, especially from December to April. Summer and fall can be more flexible. As soon as your date is set, reach out and we’ll confirm availability.

What questions should I ask before hiring a photographer?

Ask about what to expect from the resort you’ll be staying at. Our photographers know the pros and cons of each venue, and they’ll help you plan accordingly. Ask to meet up with the photographer or team of photographers that will be covering your day. Having this previous meeting can help you feel more comfortable during the shoot. It’s also a good idea to ask about specific locations or photo ideas so that we can be prepared. Get in touch with us so we can pair you with your ideal Punta Cana wedding photographer.

Packages, Prices and Planning

How much does wedding photography cost in Punta Cana?

Couples looking to get married in Punta Cana spend somewhere between USD 1,500 and 4,000 on wedding photography with an experienced local team. This usually includes full day coverage from getting ready to reception. Shorter packages for elopements or small ceremonies can cost less, while multi day events or luxury coverage will be higher.

You can expect the same price range for our wedding packages. The variations in price come from the duration of the event and whether you opt to have something extra like drone footage or a ‘trash the dress’ session. The best way to know your exact cost is to tell us about your date, resort, and what parts of the day matter most to you so we can send you a custom quote.

What is usually included in a photography package?

We realize that every wedding is unique, so every time we plan for a wedding the coverage time will be different. You can choose how much of the day you want us to photograph, this usually ranges between 3 and 8 hours. The three main events we cover for most weddings are: the prep/getting ready, the ceremony, and the celebration after. Some couples also choose to have a private session at the beach or a ‘trash the dress’ session the day after. There are also other extras like videography, drone coverage, and photo booths.

Are drone photos or videos included?

Drone coverage is available, but it is not automatically included in every package. It is usually paired with a video session as an add-on to the photoshoot.

For video, we offer two main options. One is a journalistic style film with a single camera that follows the day as it happens. The other is full wedding cinematography, filmed with multiple cameras so we can create a more complex, movie-like edit with dynamic cuts and effects. Feel free to have a look at our video portfolio to get an idea of what to expect.

If drone footage and video are important to you, let us know. We love to create video narratives!

Can we customize our package or add more hours?

Absolutely. We can modify the coverage to fit your needs. You can add hours, a larger team, drone work, an engagement session, or a day after beach session.

The Wedding Day

How long does a typical wedding photoshoot last?

Most weddings need three to eight hours depending on what events you have planned. Small beach ceremonies can be covered with 2-3 hours of coverage. Some weddings with day after sessions or special locations could span across multiple days.

What time of day is best for wedding photos?

Golden hour, about one to two hours before sunset, is our favorite time for breathtaking cinematic looking photos. Mornings can work well for small ceremonies and getting ready because it’s a little bit quieter and less hot. If your ceremony will be during midday keep in mind that the light will be stronger, creating unwanted shadows, and it will be hotter outdoors. So try to have a shaded spot for the event.

What if it rains on my wedding day?

Tropical showers tend to be brief, but it’s very important to have a backup plan. Resorts have indoor spaces that wedding planners prepare for this type of situation. We also keep a little flexibility on our end for after the rainshower. The light right after rain can make for some very beautiful photos.

Do you bring lighting equipment or assistants?

Yes. We’ve got all the equipment for the shoot, you don’t need to worry about bringing anything. The venue will more than likely have adequate lighting, but we will also provide lighting equipment for areas where it is required.

Editing, Delivery and Style

How many photos will we receive?

You can expect to receive around 300 to 600 edited images for a full day of coverage. If you opt to have coverage more focused on the ceremony and portraits, expect 100-200 images. Our Punta Cana wedding photographers will capture key moments, the overall scene, venue decorations, prep before the ceremony, and any request you may have. The sky is the limit!

When will we get our edited photos?

Our photoshoots are usually ready within four to eight weeks. During the more crowded seasons it may take a little bit longer. You’ll receive a private online gallery to download, share, and order prints or albums.

Do you deliver RAW photos?

We don’t make RAW files available by default. The edited images are color corrected and ready to print. If you need RAW files for a specific reason, we can provide them on request.

Can we request specific editing styles?

Yes, we encourage it in fact. Every wedding is unique, if you share with us a few examples before the wedding, we can get a better idea of what your expectations are. We try to keep clean and natural skin tones, but if you’re looking for something more artistic we are definitely open to throwing ideas around.

Punta Cana Destination Wedding Tips

How do I prepare for a beach wedding photoshoot?

Focus on comfort and being yourself. Choose outfits that feel good and move well, like light dresses or linen shirts and slacks. Some couples like to coordinate colors to add a touch of personality. Keep makeup simple and use waterproof products so it lasts in the heat, we highly recommend a local professional makeup artist. Pick a hairstyle that can stay together if there’s a strong breeze. We find that loose curls or secure updos tend to stay together longer. Adding small accessories like hats, sunglasses, or a scarf can add that touch of personality to your photoshoot.

For beach photoshoots it’s a good idea to go barefoot or with sandals. Plan your session for early morning or late afternoon for softer light, and to avoid the strong midday sun.

Tips for Guests: If you bring kids or pets, pack favorite toys and snacks and work around nap times. Always have water, sunscreen, and a few snacks so everyone stays comfortable and happy during the shoot.

What should we wear for the best beach photos?

We recommend choosing light fabrics that flow freely with the wind. You should avoid excessive beading, since they can get hot and uncomfortable very quickly. For beach sessions try to wear sandals or barefoot for getting around more easily. Grooms tend to choose brighter neutral colors like beige, tan, or off-white. But we’ve seen some darker combos that can also look fabulous. A great example of this is Terrance and Torogian’s wedding where the groom wore black and dark green. If you’re going for a darker color scheme make sure to avoid the mid-day heat.

What happens if our flight is delayed or plans change?

Tell us as soon as you can. Preparation is key to a wedding without major setbacks. We will coordinate with your resort and build a buffer time so we can adjust. We understand that these things can happen, we’ll try our best to adapt to your situation.

Can you recommend hair and makeup artists in Punta Cana?

Yes. We’ll point you to trusted artists who know how to make looks last in heat and humidity. Check out our guide to the most renowned makeup artists in Punta Cana.

Experience and Trust

Do you have insurance and backup equipment?

Yes. We carry liability insurance and bring backup cameras, lenses, lighting, batteries, and memory cards. If a piece of gear fails, coverage continues.

Can we see full galleries from real weddings?

Of course. Check out our portfolio page, where you can see a bunch of real weddings documented by Huellas del Caribe.

How do you make shy couples feel comfortable in front of the camera?

We get this question all the time. Our photographers are experts at being charismatic and enthusiastic. They will make you feel at ease and then step out so you can focus on your partner. Walk together, hold each other, and talk. Our goal is to capture authentic moments where you’re both being yourselves.
