Not every love story needs a big wedding with a hundred guests. Some couples just want each other, a stretch of coastline, and a day that actually feels like theirs. At HDC Photo we photograph elopements with the same care and dedication we bring to our largest destination wedding, because when it’s just the two of you, every moment matters even more.
What an Elopement in Punta Cana Looks Like
Every elopement is unique in its own way, and that is exactly what makes them so special. Some couples plan a small, intimate ceremony on the beach with a local officiant and want every part of the experience documented, from the quiet moments of getting ready to the first kiss that makes it official. Other couples skip the formalities entirely, just the two of them and a portrait session, letting the moment speak for itself.
Punta Cana is ideal as an elopement destination for couples since it offers some of the most naturally beautiful settings in the Caribbean. The pristine beaches, turquoise water, and warm gold light make it a place where you do not need much to create something extraordinary. Just you and the person you love in one of the most stunning settings natures has to offer.
Small Celebration, Big Memories
Just because an elopement is intimate does not mean it should feel nothing short of extraordinary. We capture every detail and emotion with care, creating a complete love story. From the nervous smile before the vows, to the ring exchange and the first dance with no one watching. These moments are small in number but enormous in meaning, allowing us to capture images with lots of emotional depth. Many of our elopement couples also add videography to their package, so they can relive not just the images, but the sounds, voices, and the feeling of the day itself.

Punta Cana elopement FAQ
Can we legally get married in Punta Cana with just the two of us?
Almost. Dominican law asks for two witnesses who are not family and who carry valid passports, so two people do have to sign alongside you. In practice this is never the obstacle it sounds like: staff at the civil registry office or at your hotel will usually step in, and it is done this way all the time. You will also need your passports, original birth certificates and sworn affidavits of single status, translated into Spanish and legalised. If the paperwork is more than you want to take on while travelling, the alternative most couples choose is a symbolic ceremony here on the beach and the legal signing at home.
Where can we elope in Punta Cana that is not a resort?
There is a private beach we work with where a small ceremony can be arranged properly, without anyone walking through it, and it is as beautiful as anywhere on this coast. Beyond that, the public beaches are genuinely quiet at sunrise, and a few private villas host small ceremonies. A resort will marry you too, but if you are eloping to get away from a crowd it is worth knowing that resort beaches are rarely empty.
How long does an elopement take?
The ceremony itself is often under twenty minutes. What fills the day is everything around it: getting ready, the walk to the spot, the portraits afterwards, and dinner. Most couples give it an afternoon and an evening, and nothing about it is rushed, which is rather the point of eloping.
What does your elopement coverage include?
The ceremony and a session with just the two of you afterwards. If you have a few guests with you, we will take some photographs with them as well. And if you would like the getting ready included, we can cover part of that too.
Can our families watch from home?
Yes, and it is one of the most common requests. We can set up a live stream so that whoever could not travel still sees the vows, and it works from the beach as long as there is signal.
Our Punta Cana photography and videography page has every service we offer on this coast, from weddings to family sessions.
