**UPDATED MARCH 2026
When it comes to having your wedding in Punta Cana, there are tons of things to consider. But one of the first decisions you’ll need to make is where you’ll actually have it. There are two routes that you can take, you can either have a wedding at an all inclusive resort vs a private venue. Both options have their benefits and disadvantages but regardless you’ll have an unforgettable wedding. In this guide we’ll be going over what you can expect from each option so you can choose what will fit your wedding vision best.
All-Inclusive Resort Weddings
One of the most common ways to get married in Punta Cana is through an all inclusive resort. These resorts offer wedding packages that bundle and source all the things that you need for you. They are usually categorized by guest count and venue location. You can expect a reserved space for the ceremony and a separate space for the reception, as well as food, drinks, music, decorations, and a dedicated wedding planner that will work with you months prior. This option is particularly appealing if you want to have a less stressful time planning.
Pros of Resort Weddings
Everything is in one place
Most all inclusive resorts in Punta Cana have all their amenities walking distance away or they offer constant golf cart shuttles that bring you from point a to point b. That means that once all your guests are staying at the resort there’s no transportation hassle or confusion to worry about. The transition between ceremony, cocktail, dinner, and reception is seamless and quick.
Wedding planning is easier
Having a wedding planner that knows the venue and can orient you from the start of the planning process takes away the huge load of uncertainty and anxiety that comes with planning a wedding in a foreign country. Finding external vendors, such as your wedding photographer, will be much easier with a wedding coordinator guiding you. They know the best ones that are available for your specific resort, ensuring that there are less setbacks and a more fluid experience.
Amenities for your guests
Prior to the wedding your guests can spend time at the beach, the pool, take part in live entertainment and eat at different restaurants without leaving the area. So this isn’t just a one day event, it’s a full vacation for you and all your guests.
Large guest capacity
Most Punta Cana resorts have packages that can fit any amount of guests comfortably. Ranging from private elopements to hundreds of guests you are bound to find a solution that fits your needs.
Cons of Resort Weddings
Less customization
The biggest downside for a resort wedding in Punta Cana, is the amount of control that you lose over the planning of your wedding. Packages can make you feel constrained to predetermined options of decor, menu items and timelines. Resort weddings tend to follow a set structure of ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception dinner/party. If you’re thinking of including a specific event that is out of the ordinary, then you may be more restricted in that regard.
Shared spaces
Another drawback of a resort wedding in Punta Cana, is that while the area is entirely reserved for your party, there are still other guests staying at the resort. If you’re someone that highly values privacy, this will be very difficult to avoid. While our photographers do their best to keep any photobombers out of the frame, some will inevitably seep their way through the cracks in open areas.
Vendor restrictions and fees
If you already have an external vendor in mind, (such as a wedding photography studio like Huellas del Caribe) odds are, the resort will charge vendor fees for professionals to do their work inside. Resorts have different rules about this: some charge an upfront fee, others require a daypass for each employee that goes in, and others simply don’t allow outside vendors at all. So it’s super important that you ask your wedding coordinator about this before you encounter any sneaky surprises.
The Best Resorts for your Punta Cana Wedding
Punta Cana has a LOT of resorts and it can be quite overwhelming when you don’t know which one to pick. They are also spread across very different areas, and it is worth seeing how Bávaro, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto and Macao differ before you shortlist one. This is not an exhaustive list, but here are our top Punta Cana resort picks for 2026 including some adult only and family friendly options:
Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana
Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana is one of the newer resorts in the area, located along the iconic Macao Beach. It’s got a great variety of venue locations, from terraces to beachfront options, and wedding packages that are quite versatile. This beach has some larger waves compared to other beaches in Punta Cana, which makes it popular with surfers and makes for some super dramatic backdrops. We recently photographed a wedding at this resort, check out Terrence and Torrogian’s whole story here.
Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort
Lopesan Costa Bavaro is one of the most upscale resorts in Punta Cana. It’s a very popular choice for large destination weddings. It has huge facilities with the capacity to even host multiple weddings. The infrastructure is modern and minimalistic with plenty of beautiful gardens.
Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa
Breathless Punta Cana is a trending choice for adult only resorts. It’s got a lovely party focused atmosphere. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a wedding that’s both romantic and energetic. Wedding packages include decor, bouquets boutonniere, a wedding cake, sparkling wine, and an on-site coordinator to help you with planning.
Iberostar Resorts (Bávaro Complex)
The Iberostar chain has been a gold standard for over 2 decades when it comes to resorts in Punta Cana. The property includes several interconnected resorts such as Iberostar Selection Bávaro Suites, Iberostar Waves Punta Cana, and JOIA Bávaro by Iberostar. A great advantage of choosing one of these resorts is the flexibility of locations. There’s a grand variety of beach, garden, and terrace options.
Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana
Another one of the newer resorts in Punta Cana is Live Aqua Punta Cana, located in Uvero Alto. One of the most distinctive characteristics of this resort is that they only host one wedding per day, meaning that you will always get to pick the location you want. Their packages also include extras like spa treatments.
Private Venue Weddings in Punta Cana
Private venues are independent locations outside of the resorts. These could be villas, beach clubs or country clubs. This is the go-to option if you’re looking to have the most customizable wedding possible in paradise.
Pros of Private Venues
Full customization
Private venues allow you to design the wedding exactly how you want. You choose your own decor, catering, timeline, entertainment, and vendors. All you need to do is reserve the area and the rest is up to you.
Exclusive experience
If you’re hosting your wedding at a private venue, you won’t have any events happening during the same time of your wedding. That means complete exclusivity for you and your guests.
Flexible schedule
In a private venue you’re not bound to any schedule. You are free to divide your time however you like during the time that you’re there.
Potentially better value
Especially for larger guest counts, private venues can be much more cost efficient. Resort packages scale up quite high for larger guest counts. Additionally, you’ll be able to source whichever providers suit your needs rather than the limited options that are allowed by a resort.
Cons of Private Venues
More planning required
Unlike resorts, private venues do not include everything. Beach clubs offer catering and music in addition to the location, but if you’re going for something like a private villa rental, you will need to source everything yourself. Even if you’re looking to have full control of your wedding, hiring a wedding planner is a must to help you coordinate.
Guests stay in different places
Your guests will have to stay in different places since the venue itself does not provide accommodations (unless it’s a small group that can fit in a villa). As a result you’ll have to coordinate transportation and potentially entrance permits for guests. Having everyone stay at the same resort before the day of the wedding can simplify things.
Logistics are more complex
depending on the venue. This is manageable, but it requires more coordination.
This applies specifically for private villas, resorts and beach clubs have indoor spaces that can be transitioned into in case of rain. At a private rental you’ll need to have a backup plan for yourself in case this happens. It’s manageable with the help of your wedding planner, but it requires putting more time into planning.
The Best Clubs/Restaurants for Weddings
Jellyfish Restaurant
One of the most recognizable private wedding venues in Punta Cana. By Bavaro beach’s ocean views, they offer ceremonies in front of the restaurant followed by cocktails and the whole restaurant area accommodating up to 130 guests.
Kukua Beach Club
Kukua offers a tropical garden setting next to the ocean. It’s normally open to the public as a restaurant but can be reserved for private groups taking part in celebrations or weddings. They have dedicated suites for the groom and bride and allow for external decor and vendors.
Pearl Beach Club
Pearl Beach Club is another popular private venue located in the Cabeza de Toro area of Punta Cana. It has a sleek modern atmosphere and can accommodate up to 200 guests.
Areas to Rent Villas
Punta Cana Resort & Club
One of the most exclusive gated communities in Punta Cana. There’s a huge variety of luxury villas, some with private beaches, and others with direct access to golf courses.
Cap Cana
Cap Cana is another highly luxurious gated community, where you can find a great variety of oceanview villas. Inside the property there are a wide variety of amenities such as a full scale marina, golf courses, exclusive restaurants and more.
Los Corales / El Cortecito
This area is great if you don’t want to be inside an overly luxurious atmosphere. This area is more local oriented with regular restaurants and shops. Here you can experience a more authentic Dominican experience while also enjoying a tropical beach villa.
Cost Differences
Costs vary widely depending on guest count and wedding style. Resort packages often bundle many services together. For destination weddings with 75–100 guests, resort packages can range around $15,000–$25,000 depending on the property and inclusions. Private venues can sometimes cost more upfront, but they allow you to control where the budget goes. You may want to choose a private venue specifically to prioritize decor, entertainment, or photography.
Which Option Is Best?
Ultimately the right choice comes down to what you’re looking to prioritize for your wedding:

- An easier time planning
- Everything in one location
- A cohesive vacation for you and all your guests
Go with a private venue if you want:
- Complete freedom when it comes to planning

- Flexible timelines
- More vendor choices
