Las Terrenas has its own rhythm within the Samaná Peninsula. Private villas sit beside long stretches of coastline, boutique properties are woven into the landscape, and the beaches change noticeably as you move from the open shores of Playa Cosón to Playa Bonita and the more active coastline closer to town. It creates a destination where weddings and celebrations often feel closely connected to the place around them.

HDC Photo provides photography and videography in Las Terrenas for destination weddings, intimate celebrations, proposals, and photo sessions. Based in the Dominican Republic since 2006, our work has taken us throughout the country, photographing people in places that each require their own understanding of light, setting, timing, and logistics. Whether you are planning an entire wedding week in a beachfront villa or simply want to remember a few beautiful days together, this page brings together our photography and videography in Las Terrenas and the local details that can help you plan the experience.

01

Wedding photography

Weddings in Las Terrenas often unfold across several settings rather than within a single resort. Getting ready may begin in a private villa, the ceremony beside the ocean, and the celebration continue somewhere entirely different. Photographing that kind of day means understanding how to move with it, adapting to each setting without interrupting the experience.

That variety is part of what makes Las Terrenas so distinctive. Tropical gardens, architecture, private terraces, palms, and open beaches can all become part of the same celebration. We photograph those transitions naturally, stepping in when needed for portraits while keeping the day moving. The result should feel unmistakably connected to Las Terrenas, not like a wedding that could have been photographed on any beach.

Wedding videography

Some parts of a wedding can only be fully remembered through film. The sound of your vows. A speech from someone you love. The way the room changes when everyone begins dancing. The voices, movement, laughter, music, and reactions happening around you all become part of the memory.

Our wedding videography in Las Terrenas is designed to preserve that dimension of the celebration while working naturally alongside the photography. This is especially valuable when a wedding moves between different spaces or when important moments are unfolding at the same time. The result is not simply a record of what happened. It is a way of returning to the atmosphere of the day and hearing the people who were part of it again.

Photo sessions in Las Terrenas

You do not need to be getting married to have a reason to be photographed here. Las Terrenas is also a beautiful setting for the moments surrounding a wedding, a trip together, a growing family, or simply a chapter of life you would like to remember. Sessions can be planned around the type of photographs you want, where you are staying, and the setting that best fits the experience.

03

Proposal photography

A proposal begins long before the photograph of someone getting down on one knee. The location needs to make sense, the timing has to feel natural, and your partner needs to arrive without realizing that a photographer is waiting nearby. We can help plan those details around Las Terrenas while keeping the photography discreet until the moment happens.

Once the answer is yes, the hidden part is over. The rest of the session can unfold naturally, giving you time to enjoy what just happened while we create portraits together.

Engagement photography

An engagement session can be part of the excitement leading up to the wedding or something you plan simply because you are traveling somewhere beautiful together.

Some couples photograph their engagement while visiting Las Terrenas before their wedding. Others schedule the session during their destination wedding week, when everyone has finally arrived and the months of planning are beginning to feel real. The session gives you space to slow everything down and create photographs that are about the two of you, without the schedule of the wedding day around you.

Couples photography

Honeymoons, anniversaries, vow renewals, and vacations all have something in common: they give you a reason to step outside everyday life for a while and spend time together.

A couples session in Las Terrenas does not need to feel like a formal photoshoot. We can walk, talk, explore the setting, and give direction when it helps, allowing the photographs to develop from the way you naturally interact with one another.

Maternity photography

A trip before your family grows can become one of the few quiet moments in a season filled with anticipation.

Maternity sessions in Las Terrenas are planned with comfort in mind. We can choose a setting that does not require unnecessary walking, work at a relaxed pace, and build the session around how you feel that day. The result should celebrate this stage of your life beautifully without turning it into something that feels overly posed or complicated.

Family photography

Family vacations have a way of bringing together people who may spend much of the year in different places.

We photograph families of all sizes in Las Terrenas, from parents traveling with young children to larger multi-generational trips and family reunions. Sessions are kept relaxed, particularly when children are involved, with enough direction to bring everyone together while leaving space for the interactions that make the photographs personal.

Years later, the beach may become a distant memory. The people who were there with you will remain the reason the photographs matter.

The destination

Where we photograph in Las Terrenas

One of the things that makes Las Terrenas especially interesting photographically is how much the coastline changes within a relatively small area. Choosing a location is not simply about finding the nearest beach. The amount of space, surrounding development, vegetation, access, ocean conditions, and number of people nearby can all affect how a session feels.

Playa Bonita

Playa Bonita combines a curved coastline with palms, tropical vegetation, villas, and smaller properties close to the water. The setting feels contained without feeling enclosed, giving us opportunities to work with both the beach itself and the environment around it. It is particularly well suited to couples and smaller sessions where the surroundings should feel intimate rather than expansive.

Playa Cosón

Farther west, Playa Cosón opens into a much broader stretch of coastline. There is more visual space here, with long sections of beach, palms, tropical vegetation, and fewer elements competing with the landscape. That openness works beautifully when we want the environment to become a larger part of the photographs. Cosón is also home to private villas and boutique properties, making it relevant not only for portrait sessions but for destination weddings and celebrations taking place along this side of Las Terrenas.

Playa Las Ballenas, central Las Terrenas and Punta Popy

Closer to town, the coastline becomes more connected to everyday life in Las Terrenas. Hotels, restaurants, beachfront businesses, roads, and activity sit much closer to the water than they do along the quieter stretches farther from the center. That can create a completely different atmosphere from Cosón or Bonita. For photography, the exact location matters. Some sections provide open beach and palms, while others feel more connected to the energy of the town itself.

El Portillo

East of central Las Terrenas, El Portillo brings another setting into the mix, with beachfront resorts, residences, palms, and stretches of coastline removed from the busiest parts of town. For couples and families staying in this area, photographing close to the property can sometimes be the simplest option, provided access and outside-photographer policies allow it.

Private villas and hotels

Not every session needs to begin by choosing a public beach. Las Terrenas has a strong villa and boutique-hotel culture, and some properties already contain everything we need: gardens, terraces, tropical architecture, palms, private outdoor spaces, and direct access to the coast.

If you are staying somewhere you love, send us the exact property when you inquire. We can determine whether photographing there makes sense before deciding that another location is necessary.

Weddings and venues in Las Terrenas

Part of the appeal of getting married in Las Terrenas is that there is no single formula for what a wedding here needs to look like.

Private villa weddings

Private villas are an important part of the wedding landscape in Las Terrenas, particularly around Playa Bonita and Playa Cosón. They can allow much more of the celebration to happen in one place. The couple and wedding party may get ready upstairs while the ceremony is being prepared outside. Guests can gather around the property before moving toward the beach, then return for dinner and dancing after sunset. From a photography and videography perspective, that continuity can be wonderful. Instead of constantly moving between unrelated spaces, the property itself becomes part of the story of the day.

Boutique hotels and resorts

For couples who prefer more traditional hospitality around their wedding, Las Terrenas also has boutique properties and beachfront resorts across the area. These can simplify accommodation and event logistics when many guests are traveling together, while still offering a setting that feels considerably smaller and more integrated into the surrounding destination than a massive resort complex.

Beachfront celebrations

The coast is naturally part of many weddings here, whether the entire event is built around the beach or the ocean simply becomes the setting for the ceremony and portraits. What matters is understanding the exact property and stretch of coastline involved. Beach width, access, privacy, surrounding activity, wind, and the position of the sun can change considerably across Las Terrenas. That is why we prefer to understand the actual venue before making assumptions based only on the destination name.

Photographing in Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas is part of the Samaná Peninsula, but it has developed into a destination with an identity very much its own. Unlike places where tourism is concentrated almost entirely inside large resorts, life here extends between the beach, villas, hotels, restaurants, residences, and the town itself. That changes the experience of photographing here.

The coast is also remarkably varied. Cosón feels broad and open. Bonita is more contained. The beaches closer to town carry more activity around them. El Portillo stretches the destination farther east into another collection of resorts and residential areas.

Those differences matter because photography is shaped by more than scenery. Privacy matters during a proposal. Easy access matters when photographing young children or a maternity session. Travel between properties matters on a wedding day. The amount of activity on a beach can completely change the feeling of a portrait. Good planning begins with understanding where you will actually be.

Planning photography and videography in Las Terrenas

For photography or videography in Las Terrenas, we plan the day around the exact property, location, and type of coverage you need. If you are planning a wedding, send us your date and venue when you inquire. If you are staying in a private villa, include the name or location of the property. For photo sessions, knowing where you are staying helps us determine whether your hotel or villa is suitable or whether another setting would give you a better experience.

Resort and private-property access can vary, so permission for an outside photographer or videographer should always be confirmed when required. For sessions away from your accommodation, transportation and travel time should also be considered before choosing a location. You do not need to have every detail figured out before contacting us. Once we understand what you are planning, we can help you determine the photography or videography coverage that makes sense.
