A maternity session in Punta Cana comes with two things to consider that a session at home often doesn’t: the tropical climate and being away from home. The right Punta Cana maternity photographer knows how to plan for both. Since 2006, HDC Photo has photographed families and life’s biggest milestones across Punta Cana, creating relaxed maternity sessions designed around the best light, comfortable temperatures, and locations that are easy to enjoy.
Punta Cana offers a beautiful variety of settings for maternity photography. From the calm turquoise waters of Juanillo Beach to the natural beauty of Macao Beach and the convenience of photographing at your resort, we’ll help you make the most of this special time while you’re here.
Being local also keeps everything simple. There are no travel fees for sessions in Punta Cana, most locations are just a short drive from the area’s resorts, and last-minute bookings are often possible if you’re already on vacation. This page is all about planning your maternity session in Punta Cana and making the experience as comfortable, enjoyable, and memorable as possible.
The babymoon session
Many of the maternity sessions we photograph take place during a babymoon, and Punta Cana is one of the Caribbean’s most popular destinations for expecting parents. With beautiful beaches, warm weather, and world-class resorts, it’s the perfect place to relax before your baby’s arrival while capturing this special chapter of your journey.
We recommend scheduling your session early in your trip whenever possible. That gives you more flexibility in case the weather requires us to adjust the date, and it lets you enjoy the rest of your vacation knowing your photos are already taken. Our sessions are relaxed, unhurried, and designed to fit naturally into your babymoon, so you can focus on enjoying the experience together.
Built around comfort, not endurance
A maternity session here should feel like a slow walk on the beach that happens to produce photographs, and we pace it that way.
We typically schedule sessions when the light is at its most flattering and the temperatures are more comfortable, avoiding the harsh midday sun whenever possible. The softer light creates beautiful skin tones, while the cooler part of the day makes the experience much more enjoyable.
Throughout the session, we move at a comfortable pace with plenty of opportunities to rest if needed. We choose easy walking routes, make use of natural shade when available, and focus on simple, natural poses that highlight your baby bump without requiring anything physically demanding. The goal is for you to feel comfortable, confident, and able to enjoy every moment of the experience.
What to wear on a Punta Cana beach
Choosing the right outfit can make a big difference in your maternity photos, especially on the beach.
Lightweight, flowing fabrics work best in Punta Cana’s warm weather and ocean breeze. Dresses made from chiffon, cotton, or other soft materials add beautiful movement to your photos while keeping you comfortable throughout the session. Heavier or tighter fabrics tend to feel warmer and don’t move as naturally.
For colors, think about standing out from the scenery rather than matching it. Soft whites, creams, earth tones, dusty pinks, and muted greens photograph beautifully against the sand and turquoise water. Rich colors like emerald, burgundy, or navy also create a striking contrast, while pale blues and beige can blend into the background.
We also recommend going barefoot or wearing sandals that are easy to slip off, and choosing an outfit that travels well without needing much ironing. If you’d like a few photos in the water, wear a dress you’re comfortable getting wet, as the ocean can add a beautiful finishing touch to your session.
Where we shoot maternity sessions in Punta Cana
These settings cover nearly every maternity gallery we make, chosen for calm rather than drama.
Your Resort. You don’t have to leave your resort to enjoy a beautiful maternity session. Many Punta Cana resorts offer quiet beaches, tropical gardens, and elegant surroundings, making it easy and comfortable to capture this special time.
Juanillo Beach. With its calm turquoise water, soft white sand, and swaying palm trees, Juanillo Beach is one of Punta Cana’s most peaceful locations. It’s perfect for timeless maternity portraits with a relaxed Caribbean feel.
Corales Beach. Corales Beach offers a quieter setting with beautiful coastline and fewer crowds. Its natural scenery creates a private, intimate atmosphere that’s ideal for maternity photography.
Macao Beach. For moms-to-be looking for a more natural beach setting, Macao Beach offers wide stretches of sand, rolling surf, and a refreshing ocean breeze. The movement of the waves and the open shoreline create beautiful, relaxed maternity portraits.
Booking your session
Send your travel dates, where you are staying, and anything you already know you want. We reply in under 24 hours, and because we are based here, sessions can often be arranged even mid-trip. Package options and details are on our maternity photography page.
Punta Cana maternity photographer FAQ
How far in advance should we book our Punta Cana maternity session?
We recommend booking as soon as you know your travel dates, but many families reserve their session just a few days before or even during the same week. The earlier you book, the more flexibility you’ll have with dates and times. If you are already in Punta Cana, reach out anyway. We’ll always do our best to fit you in.
When is the best time to schedule a maternity photoshoot?
We typically recommend scheduling your maternity session between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, your baby bump is beautifully visible while most moms still feel comfortable walking on the beach and enjoying the session. However, if you’re visiting Punta Cana outside this window, you can absolutely still have a maternity session. Every pregnancy is different, and we’ll adapt the session to make sure you’re comfortable while capturing this special time.
Can my partner and children be part of the session?
Absolutely! We encourage partners and children to be part of the session. Maternity photos are about celebrating your growing family, and including your loved ones helps create meaningful images you’ll cherish for years to come.
What happens if it rains?
Caribbean weather changes by the hour, and we adapt on the day rather than planning around a forecast. If it is raining when we start, waiting it out often works. If it does not pass, we can move under cover: a resort colonnade, a terrace, or a room with good window light all photograph well, and the pictures come out quieter rather than worse. If the day is a write-off we reschedule within your stay. And if you are far along and would rather not gamble on a second attempt, tell us and we will plan the covered option from the start.
What should I wear for my maternity photoshoot?
We recommend wearing comfortable outfits that make you feel confident and highlight your baby bump. Light, flowing dresses and neutral or soft colors photograph beautifully against Punta Cana’s beaches, while coordinating your outfits with your partner and family creates a timeless look.
Can we bring props to our maternity session?
Please do. Many couples pack something small: a pair of baby shoes, the first little outfit, the ultrasound picture, a blanket someone in the family made. They photograph beautifully in close-up and they are almost always the frames that end up on a shelf rather than in an album. Pack them in your hand luggage and bring them to the session. If you are not sure whether something will work, send us a picture beforehand and we will tell you.
